Theme: "Medicine for the Soul"

Join Rev. Kat Katsanis-Semel and Student Liza Fox as they offer healing prayers and Rev. Kat leads listeners through a Yoga Nidra session. Yoga Nidra has been researched for its ability to support Vets (and other communities) in recovering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder symptoms. However, even if someone is not recovering from acute trauma and its effects on the brain and nervous system, this gentle modality is a way to: rest, relax, recharge and relieve stress. The sequence will be offered with participants in a laying down position, whether that be on a mat, bed or sofa. All bodies and physical mobility levels are welcomed. No previous experience in yoga or yogic meditation is required, though it is welcomed. During class time, participants will be safely guided into a state of "Nidra" or "Yogic Sleep," which is different in nature than hypnosis. This restorative state is ideal for calming the body, mind and spirit and aiding in deeper, physical sleep.  Kat and Liza will offer our listeners a chance to walk deeper with God as well as each other. Participants are reporting healings after these evening TeleServices. Invite your friends and family members to join us for an evening of GRACE!

About our Presenters

Rev. Kat Katsanis-Semel Bio

For nearly twenty years, Rev. Kat has offered workshops and sessions to those who seek profound mental and spiritual wellbeing. Kat provides sublime offerings that share concrete, soft skills with individuals, families and communities. She’s served both as an independent consultant and via organizations, such as: Mental Health America of San Diego County, Community Health Improvement Partners, The Chopra Center, On Point Acupuncture and Wellness Center, Deaf Community Services, Omega Institute for Holistic Studies, Fraternity House, Inc., World Yoga Center NYC, Community
Resources and Self-Help, Serving Seniors, Hillcrest Youth Center, Stonewall Citizens’ Patrol, Sarah Lawrence College and New York University’s Global Center for Academic and Spiritual Life.
As an Ordained, Interfaith Minister and former, NYU Mindfulness Chaplain, Kat shares wellness-oriented skills in faith-based settings and beyond. She especially loves to serve those who consistently serve others, such as the employees of churches and other places of worship and contemplation. Blending intellectual acumen with spiritual sensitivity, Kat pairs public health instruction with intuitive insights.
This level of instruction (paired with insights) transforms her clients’ lives. Kat has shared her gifts in the following places of worship, within the County of San Diego: St. Andrew’s by-the-Sea Episcopal Church, St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Church, Metropolitan Community Church, St. Thomas More Catholic Church and St. Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church. She’s also been interviewed on the “Meditate This!”, “Lady Preacher” and “Celebrating Life Ministries” podcasts. In New York City, Kat was honored to share her gifts, as part of the “Yoga Shabbat” series, at Congregation Beit Simchat Torah in Manhattan.
Some of the healthy coping mechanisms that she offers are: Hatha Yoga for physical resiliency, Yoga Nidra for nervous system relaxation and restoration, Pranayama (breathing exercises) for stress reduction and Mindfulness Meditation for heightened mental clarity. In Jesus-centered environments, Kat can also draw on ancient prayer techniques, unique to her primary, spiritual tradition. Kat contextualizes the mind-body-spirit work that she offers as preventative medicine; for it’s through motivating individuals to release anxiety and increase wellbeing that we can prevent many negative health outcomes, which range from hypertension, to serious mental illness, to self-harm. While volunteering with FBI San Diego, Kat realized that her work can contribute to both positive public health outcomes and positive public safety outcomes; this is because the more centered in wellness that we are, the less likely we are to accept toxic ideologies, which lead to lapses of judgment and even violence.
Kat is dedicated to being part of the solution. As such, she offers relevant, wellness strategies, from a trauma-informed perspective. Though her specialty is serving the LGBTQ+-community, Kat delights in serving anyone who is open to becoming well or enhancing their experience of wellness. After intensive study, she earned her “Question, Persuade, Refer” teacher’s training certification in 2017. That was also the year she became part of the worldwide doTERRA family of wellness advocates who share education, regarding the benefits of essential oils and other healthy, natural products. Then, Kat went on to earn her “Mental Health First Aid” teacher’s training certification in 2019. Now, she offers evidence-based, suicide prevention/intervention trainings with candor and warmth, to small and large groups.
